Rehabilitation medicine, also known as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.  PM&R practitioners (physiatrists) are medical doctors who have completed four years of medical school and at least four years of residency training in PM&R.  Physiatrists are trained in treating patients holistically with a strong focus on quality of life interventions.
